A significant change is on the horizon! In keeping with advancements in payment technology and their continued mission for faster, safer, and more reliable transactions, the U.S. Treasury will begin transitioning away from paper check disbursements for federal payments.
What’s Changing?
- No More Paper Checks: Starting September 30, 2025, the Secretary of the Treasury will discontinue the issuance of paper checks for all federal disbursements.
- Payments Impacted: This transition includes, but is not limited to: Social Security and other benefit payments and tax refunds
What Does This Mean for You?
- If you currently receive any federal payments by paper check, you will need to transition to an electronic payment method before September 30, 2025.
How to Prepare
- Verify or Set Up Direct Deposit: Contact a personal banker to set up direct deposit if you haven’t already.
